This removes the headache of having to memorize every Pokémon's weaknesses and strengths. During battles, the effectiveness stats will be shown underneath each move if players have already fought a specific type of Pokémon. Hidden Moves, like Cut or Rock Smash, no longer have to be taught to specific Pokémon to activate them. Some of the newest additions to Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl are the simple quality-of-life mechanics that have been added in. Changes in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl ILCA clearly set out to make a modernized but faithful remake of these two games, and fully succeeded. There are no added Mega-Evolutions or Pokémon Dynamaxing like what was included in the 2014 Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire remakes. This is a positive for Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, as battling wild Pokémon feels more streamlined with less flash and wasted time. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl does not do too much to stray from the original games. With the constant changes and additions that the Pokémon series has gone through, Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl are a nice trip back to the simpler days of Pokémon past.

The new “Mega” evolutions are not enough to really sell the game for me, it is mostly just a tact-on now to try to get more sales. It’s not a must-have for 3DS owners or Pokemon fans. This game does a good job of being retro in its tribute to the original Ruby and Sapphire, but it’s not the greatest Pokemon game out there. It hasn’t changed much from what the series is largely known for. The background tunes, both when you travel and when you battle, is nice and somewhat rememberable. Also the Pokemon Contests were not as fun as the one for Pokemon Platinum where more skill was involved. The Pokemon-Anime App, first introduced in X & Y, wasn’t improved upon when it could’ve easily had more minigames added. The difficulty level isn’t high enough in my opinion, it dropped from previous games. The battles themselves are fine, that’s not what I’m talking about.
This is perhaps where they didn’t do as well. It is up to you (because apparently other Ace Trainers don’t care to help) to save the day. Depending on which version you get, Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire, you either meet Team Aqua or Team Magma. Of course, relatively right off the bat in your exploration, something goes wrong in the region. You must face off against all the Gym Leaders in order to earn the necessary badges to unlock your way through Victory Road. It is another fun adventure, but it does little to improve or revolutionize the formula.Īs always, you start off at a small village just before you embark on a big journey to become the Pokemon Champ. It runs on the same engine as Pokemon X & Y, which is mostly good for graphics I think. Pokemon Omega Ruby for the Nintendo 3DS is a remake of Pokemon Ruby back on the Gameboy Advance.
